Adapted from Pershing, J. (2002). Using document analysis in analyzing and evaluating performance. Performance Improvement (41)1.
What types of analysis can be performed?

Clearly determine the purpose of the analysis before choosing a method. To determine purpose, consider the goals and objectives of the performance analysis and the relevancy of document analysis.

Types of Analysis:

  • Tracking
  • Content Analysis
  • Case Study Aggregation
What are the coding approaches?

Objective: codes substitute for facts for numerical comparison of data

Heuristic: codes point to items to consider for further analysis

In-between: codes used both objectively and heuristically as needed
